What is a blog, is it for you? A beginners guide to what is blogging…
I’m writing this because it seems there are some that are totally into the blogging thing and others like me that are totally oblivious to it! When I started reading blogs I really had no idea the extent of blogging; the different types (crafts, diy, lifestyle, food, personal development, business…), the possibilities, the financial potential it could bring a blogger, the useful information you could find, etc. (yes I knew what a blog was but I didn’t know how in depth it could actually be)
So I thought if I had to do some research then someone else just might be as oblivious to blogging as I was in the beginning!!
A blog is a frequently updated online personal journal or diary. It is a place to express yourself to the world. A place to share your thoughts and your passions. Really, it’s anything you want it to be. For our purposes we’ll say that a blog is your own website that you are going to update on an ongoing basis. Blog is a short form for the word weblog consisting of entries (called posts).
- Blog(noun) – a journal or diary that is on the Internet.
- Blogger(noun) – a person who keeps a blog – Bloggers are revolutionizing the way news is shared.
- Blog(verb) – to write a blog – I am going to blog before breakfast this morning.
- Blogging(verb) – the action of writing a blog – Blogging is my way of sharing my passions with the world. Definitions from http://blogbasics.com/what-is-a-blog
There are over 100 million blogs with more being created everyday. Blogs have become more than online diaries and about personal life. Bloggers are impacting the worlds of politics, business and society with their words. Many are making a lucrative income from blogging from home.
What is a blog? Is starting a blog for you?
I kind of think of it as helping someone else in some sort of way but not only someone else but helping yourself along the journey. As you learn, you grow as a person. As your growing your becoming a better version of yourself which will lead to a happier you! I believe the secret to real happiness is progress, if we make progress toward a worthy idea or goal on a regular basis, we feel most alive.
To be truly happy & satisfied in life we also have to do things we enjoy doing and a blog creates that for many people. Because you may be dissatisfied with your current circumstances right now, but if you have a way to escape from it, then it makes it that much more tolerable until you get to where you truly want to be in life.
A blog creates that escape from everyday life, from the mundane routine of life. Because with your blog, you can make it anything you want to make it, talk about whatever the hell you want to talk about, share what you want, and not give a shit what anyone else thinks. “An Escape”
We all have creativity in us in some sort of way or another, and if were not expressing it I believe that we will never feel fully satisfied. We need a creative outlet.
By getting better at what you know how to do and developing skills & talents, you feel accomplished, you feel like you’re fully living.
- Do you have something you love doing? Do you have a story or talent to share?
- Is there a particular subject you enjoy researching?
- Is there something that you do that you just lose track of time because you enjoy doing it so much?
- Do you like learning new things?
These are some of the questions to ask yourself if you’re thinking about blogging but don’t know where to begin. Asking yourself these questions will help decide what you could possibly blog about and if this would be something you would want to do.
Blogging can also be a business not just a hobby. Have you always dreamed of working from home or making more money? It is possible to have a business from home and do what you love. You could go from stay at home mom or working mom, to Mompreneur working from home! (A Mompreneur is defined as a female business owner who is actively balancing the role of mom and the role of entrepreneur) Blogging is a platform to create many opportunities for passive income. (What is passive income? Passive income includes regular earnings from a source other than an employer)
