Healthy Clean Eating Picnic Recipes to keep you on Track this Holiday Weekend
How many of you have some parties and celebrations this weekend and while you want to enjoy yourself you don’t want to undo all the hardwork you’ve done?! Trust me – I get it!!! I know what its like to begin a fitness journey and BAM get smacked with back to back parties and weddings and get togethers and think you either A) Cannot enjoy anything at the party B) You’re going to be tossing all that hard work out the window. But that doesn’t have to be the case!!!
Here are some tips and recipes to help you stay on track:
Developing a game plan for your weekend is going to help in so many ways!! For example if you are hosting a party on then you are in control of the menu and the food will be healthy. You can make this choice, you do not have to make your menu just to make everyone else happy. Tell them you menu plan if your worried about it, if they don’t like it they will eat before they come or bring items they like. This is your life, your health.
Same applies if you are going to a picnic elsewhere ask what the menu is. You can take a turkey burger or ask if a piece of chicken can be thrown on the grill. Just explain to them your goals and that you don’t want to undo all your hard work, most people will understand. And if they don’t its not your job to worry about what they think, this is your life your health.
· Take a healthy side dish
· Eat before you go so that you aren’t starving and then fill up on all the unhealthy things
· Enjoy yourself but do it in moderation. If you want to try the chocolate cake and the cheesecake take a very small slice of each and maybe skip the pasta dish.
· Don’t get sucked into mindless eating. Make the party about the people and spending time with them not all about the food.
· Keep busy, offer to help out; set the table, clean up, mix drinks, help with the kids, play games. When you keep yourself busy it keeps you from thinking about how much you want the cake.
In the end you will feel accomplished and I don’t feel guilty. While everyone else is going home feeling bloated from eating so much you will go home feeling great and proud of yourself and you will still fit into your shorts and full of energy. Don’t think of not having a certain food as depriving yourself, think of it as treating your body the way God intended it to be! Each decision that you make brings you closer to your ultimate health goal or farther away.
I also want to note that it is OK to have a sweet treat! I firmly believe in the 80/20 rule. 80% of the time you want to stick to your healthy eating routine and then 20% of the time you can have what you would like within reason. This boils down to one meal per week. Not one entire day of indulging but one meal!! Eat what you would like and do not feel guilty about it! You earned it because of your hard work and you deserve to enjoy without reservation!!
